Reggio Emilia inspired storytelling
Africanarra, a weekend of storytelling by people inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach in South Africa, was held between Friday 24 May and Sunday 26 May 2024. Once upon a time… An enchanted evening of storytelling involving children, parents, families, staff and the wider community at Reddam House Waterfall.
The energy of Africanarra at Mimosa School Auckland Park! A weekend full of events included stories of the alleyway by children, as well as joyful performances by parents and members of the community: “The colour is green and the words are strong!”


Preschool children at Crawford International Bedfordview recreated the world of Going on a Bear Hunt – including mud puddles, forests, big rivers, and snowstorms.
School families in Ballito gathered together for an afternoon of storytelling, hosted by Soul Action.


For the Africanarra event at St John’s DSG, “Family groups” each consisting of one girl from each grade from Grades RR – 7 shared stories together. Those in Grade 6 and 7 also created their own props for the story-sharing session.

An invitation to a day of storytelling at Petra’s Edu-Play.
Charterhouse Pre-Primary in Roodepoort had local author Matina Genkova-Mpofu come and read one of her stories. Children absolutely loved meeting a “real-life author”.


Redhill Early Learning Centre celebrated Africa Day by connecting to the storytelling of Africanarra! The children explored their chosen stories through the languages of puppetry, dramatization, art and music.
Students enjoyed listening to African myths and legends in celebration of Africa Day for the Africanarra event at Crawford International in Kenya.
